Individual Therapy
You are doing the best you can and sometimes, you need help.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a space where you can safely and confidently explore what has happened in your past, what is happening in your present, and what we can work on for your future.
That awareness is power! Awareness = Choice = Change

My work with individuals centers around supporting you as you embrace self-development and strengthen self-compassion, combat anxiety, navigate life transitions, confront minority stress, dismantle generational impact, and establish healthy boundaries. We will work collaboratively and I encourage clients to take the lead during this process. We will acknowledge and address key elements of personal growth such as thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationship dynamics, meaning, purpose, and whatever else is important to bring into the room.

How individual therapy can help:

What to expect in an individual therapy session:
Our first few sessions together will be the two of us getting to know each other. I will ask a variety of questions about who you are, where you have been, who is important in your life, what challenges you have faced, the strengths you possess, and what changes you are hoping to make or how you would like to use the therapeutic space.
Next, we will focus on goal setting. Together we will discuss where we want to start and prioritize your needs. This process will help us establish big-picture thinking via a plan to reach your goals. These goals are not rigid rules or frameworks, but rather act like guidelines for our sessions. The plan could include psychoeducational information, development of self regulatory skills, interpersonal skills such as reflective listening and boundary setting, developing personal agenda for change in relationships, exploration to understand yourself better, defusing triggers by separating out the past from the present, critical thinking and problem solving, values aligned action and more.
From there, we get into the work. Depending on the goal, this may take just a few weeks or it may take a few years. It is unique to you, your process, and your needs. I regularly check in with clients to see if they feel our space is productive and that they are meeting their goals. If so, next steps might include focusing on a new goal, decreasing the frequency of our sessions, or transitioning out of therapy. Once you are no longer actively working on goals and feel less need for support we will process your therapeutic journey and say our farewells. Please know that you are welcome to reach out to me at any point in the future to inquire about resuming services if you wish.
For some clients, an active goal is not desired. You may want to come specifically for maintenance - to use the space to talk openly and digest life events as a part of your mental health routine (much like going to the gym). I am happy to work with and provide space for you. We can always tailor the space to fit your needs – both immediate and long-term.
